"This breathtaking 6,707 meter championship golf course is set in a beautiful farming landscape, its grasses burnished with northern summer sun and glistening in the champagne snow of winter. This is a big, brash course, as impressive as its Norwegian Viking history. It takes fierce, strong men to match its hilly terrain and beautiful Nordic ladies to charm its lake lined and flower laden spring. We are proud to welcome Miklagard into our worldwide family of golf courses."
-Robert Trent Jones, Jr
After 5 years of construction, with Robert Trent Jones Jr as the architect, the course was opened for the members in june 2001. The quality of greens, fairways and tees meet a high European standard. Miklagard is, among its players, known for its high green-speed. On an average day the green-speed is about 10,5 feet at the stimpmeter and during competitions it can reach 12,5 feet.
Miklagard is an open parkland course with high rough and water which gives the golfer a true challenge, especially on a windy day. Hole number 2, par 4, is a typical Trent Jones "risk and reward" design. If you aim at the right side of the fairway there will be no risk, but your second shot will be towards a 10 meter high levelled green and over 3 bunkers. But if you choose to aim at the left hand side of the fairway, over the bunker in the middle, your second shot will be towards a visible green without any bunkers in play. From the back tees, the par 3 hole number five gives the golfer a tough shot at 217 metres with water hazard on the left side.
In order to give all golfers, at all levels, a fair chance, the course has five different tees, ranging from red 4930 meters to black 6707 meters.
Peter Kaensche hold the course record with 67 strokes. This record was set during the National Team Competition in 2005.
